Chief of Police

Walt SchuldWalt Schuld was appointed Chief of the San Pablo Police Department in June 2010.  He has served over twenty-seven years with the San Pablo Police Department.  In 2003, he was promoted to Commander.  During his tenure he commanded the Patrol Division, Investigations Division, and Support Services Division.  Promoted to Captain in 2008, he oversaw the operations of all divisions within the department and developed many community programs.

Chief Schuld is a past graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and the P.O.S.T. Executive Development Course.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Saint Mary’s College and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University Sacramento.  He is also a longtime member of the San Pablo Chamber of Commerce and San Pablo Rotary and is a 6th Degree Black Belt in the martial art of Kajukenbo.

Chief Schuld is a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police, California Police Chiefs’ Association, Contra Costa County Chiefs’ Association and the West County Chief’s Committee.  This committee also supervises the highly effective West County Narcotic Enforcement Team (West-Net) and provides oversight for law enforcement related issues and programs in West County.
