The City of San Pablo is unique in many ways, and I feel privileged to have witnessed and been part of the police department’s transformation into what we believe is one of the finest, most well-respected agencies in Northern California. The men and women of our department have worked very hard to earn that respect through determination and unwavering commitment, and enduring support of the public, other law enforcement agencies and the criminal justice system.

This ‘can do’ philosophy, initially established by retired Chief Douglas Krathwohl, continues today to empower the men and women of this department to maximize their potential and accomplishments through enhanced training, education, and unparalleled experience.

Our motto, Failure Is Not an Option, has proven both inspirational and successful as San Pablo continues to benefit from one of the highest homicide and violent crime clearance rates in the Bay Area for nearly two decades.

Continuous support by City Staff and the San Pablo City Council further enhances our strong professional relationship, and also provides a conduit for a variety of very successful community and youth-based programs such as Kids-to-Camp, Gang Awareness and P.I.S.T.O.L., which incorporates the D.A.R.E. philosophy.

An extremely proactive Code Enforcement Division has resolved numerous complaints of blight, criminal conduct and other safety hazards throughout the City, and has proven to be the catalyst for significant improvements in overall living conditions.

The Police Department also plays an active management role in the San Pablo Lytton Casino. Currently operating as a Class II gaming establishment, casino employee backgrounds, work permits, and periodic site inspections by the police department ensure compliance and a positive gaming experience.

The San Pablo Police Department strives to offer exceptional police service to the public and works diligently to ensure that the public’s safety and welfare remains paramount to that mission.
