Investigations

The Investigations Section under the direction of a Commander is supervised by a Sergeant. The primary responsibility of this unit is to conduct follow-up investigations on criminal cases and prepare them for presentation to the District Attorney's Office. Usually, uniform Patrol Officers are the first contact with victims of crimes. They conduct the initial investigation and prepare the reports for follow-up investigation by the Investigators. Detectives make themselves available around the clock to provide their expertise and to manage investigations requiring immediate attention.

In addition to the Supervising Sergeant, Investigations includes four Detectives, a secretary, one police services technician and one police services assistant. Each Detective is assigned to investigate specific types of crimes that include: crimes against persons; crimes against property; crimes against children; and gang and narcotics crime. Being assigned to specific crime-types enables Detectives to gain valuable expertise. It also helps to establish a network of communication with investigators from other law enforcement agencies with similar knowledge.

The Special Investigations Section is supervised by a Sergeant and is primarily responsible for Casino related issues. The section includes three background investigators and clerical support. The Section Sergeant is also responsible for supervising the School and Community Resource Programs Officer.

One Investigator from this unit is assigned to the West County Narcotics Enforcement Force (West-NET). The Investigator works off-site throughout Contra Costa County with other local law enforcement agencies.
